DEMO DERBY RULES
1. Only licensed drivers are permitted to drive. No professional drivers allowed. Drivers must be 16 years of age or older with a valid drivers license.
2. Each driver must sign a release form at the time of the car’s inspection and registration.
3. Each driver must attend drivers’ meeting prior to start of derby.
4. The use of intoxicating beverages or illegal substances prior to or during the derby disqualifies the car and the crew of the offending party.
5. The derby will run in heats: with heat winners competing in the feature heat.
6. All glass, trim, back seat, and factory gas tank must be removed before arriving at the fairgrounds.
7. Year model 1980 and newer must be used for big cars. Any year model may be used for small cars. No trucks, limousines, or hearses. Small car no more than 108in wheelbase and must be 4 or 6 cylinders and must be unibody. PRE-RUN cars are allowed.
8. Doors may be wired, chained, or welded. Door strapping not to exceed 1/8 in. by 2 in.
9. Hood and truck must be open for inspection; they may be wired or chained shut in up to 6 places.
10. Any year bumper may be seam welded; bumper and shock brackets can be welded to car’s factory shock and bumper brackets only. NO homemade bumpers.
11. Motor swaps are allowed. Motor mounts can be welded to car and angle for crossmember can not be more than 6 in. long no exceptions.
12. Distributor protectors are NOT allowed and NO kickers anywhere.
13. Rear end can be swapped but it must be a direct bolt in no more than 5 lug axles; no leaf spring conversion.
14. Car must have working suspension; radiator must be in stock location; NO great-stuff
15. Gas tank must be where the back seat was – small cars can not run full size gas tank; battery must be in passenger floor board; must have a bar/wire in front windshield for safety
16. Bumper height must be no more than 21 in. and no lower than 15 in. no exceptions
17. A 4 point cage can be used – it can be up to 6 in. tall and may not extend past the front doors more than 6 ins. in front or rear; can have rollover bar – must go straight up and not attach to frame
18. NO tire restrictions
19. Slip shafts are allowed
20. NO creasing body panels; no wedged or tucked trunks – must run full trunk or no trunk; NO back window bars; must have hood – half hood is ok
21. ONLY welding on car is doors, bumpers, motor mounts, transmission crossmember, cage, and front window bars; body bushings may be removed
22. Drivers may maneuver forward and backward. Contact must be made with an “active” car. “Playing Possum” will be grounds for disqualification.
23. Cars that don’t move from one position or cars that don’t hit another car for at least 2 minutes will be disqualified.
24. NO deliberate hitting of the driver’s door. This will result in automatic disqualification.
25. Track officials will check any car catching fire to make sure it is safe before returning to the heat.
26. You MUST stay in your car unless told to do otherwise by a derby official.
27. Any driver fighting or arguing will automatically be disqualified. No exceptions.
28. If car is rolled over it will be disqualified. If car is knocked out of ring it will be disqualified.
29. A $200 Mad Dog Award with trophy will be awarded to the most destroyed/hardest hit small car and the most destroyed large car as judged by event staff.
30. OFFICIALS’ DECISION IS FINAL
31. ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE THE DAY OF THE EVENT TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER PRINTED MATERIAL
